Matt Smith is a proud citizen of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan and is a passionate advocate for Indigenous economic sovereignty. Matt currently works for the over 13,000 members of the Lac LaRonge Indian Band as the Vice President of Stakeholder and Government Relations with Kitsaki Management, the Band’s economic development corporation.
Matt was born and raised in Regina but spent over a decade away from the province to work, travel and attend university. He has visited over 75 different countries and received a Bachelors Degree from Carleton University and a Masters Degree from Oxford University. Outside of work, Matt’s children keep him busy but in the brief moments without kids’ activities he and his wife enjoy hiking and travel.
Matt’s first experience with the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan was as a client in his early teens, and he is excited by the opportunity to serve the organization and the community by helping support critical restorative justice, reintegration and harm-reduction initiatives in Saskatchewan.
