Media Release – Prisoner Justice Day – August 10
August 10 is Prisoners Justice Day. Along with our partners at CLASSIC – Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City, Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan and Elizabeth Fry Society of Saskatchewan, we are calling on the Government of Saskatchewan to end the practice of using the Wrap and chair restraints on youth and adults in custody in Saskatchewan.
We believe there are better options to de‐escalate volatile situations and prevent self‐harm, such as raising mental health care to an adequate standard, improving prison conditions, and using effective de‐escalation strategies. These steps will best serve the safety of both prisoners and prison staff.
