“Walk The Walk” is more than an entertainment event—it’s a fundraiser supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth who face rejection, homelessness, and discrimination. Lulu’s Lodge, run by John Howard Society of Saskatchewan, is Regina’s only transitional shelter for these youth, offering safety, support, and hope.
The event brings the community together to raise funds and awareness, helping meet growing demand for housing, mental health care, and essential services. Its core message: when the community shows up, vulnerable youth have a real chance to build a stable and hopeful future.
About Lulu’s Lodge
Lulu’s Lodge is more than a house , it is a lifeline. Operated by the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan, this five-bedroom transitional home supports 2SLGBTQ+ youth aged 16–21 who are facing homelessness, rejection, and instability. For many, homelessness began the moment they were no longer accepted for who they are.
At Lulu’s Lodge, youth find more than shelter , they find safety, affirmation, and a place where they can be themselves without fear. Residents receive wrap-around support including mental health services, education support, employment readiness, life skills, and guidance from caring staff who help them rebuild confidence and stability.
For many young people, Lulu’s Lodge is the first place they have ever felt truly safe. It is not just a place to stay , it is a place to begin again.
Lulu’s Story
Alex, lovingly known as Lulu, was a kind and caring young person who, like many youth, struggled to find where they truly belonged.
While staying with the John Howard Society, Lulu faced the difficult reality that too many 2SLGBTQ+ youth experience, searching for acceptance, support, and a place to feel safe.
Though Lulu’s life was tragically cut short, their spirit lives on through Lulu’s Lodge, created in their memory to support youth who are feeling lost or alone. Today, Lulu’s legacy is one of compassion, belonging, and hope, ensuring that other young people have a safe place to begin again.

Why Sponsorship Matters
At 17, many 2SLGBTQ+ youth are forced into homelessness after being rejected at home. In Canada, about 25–40% of homeless youth identify as 2SLGBTQ+.
Lulu’s Lodge is nearly full at around 95% occupancy, with a waitlist of youth still needing safety. Without places like this, they often face couch surfing, violence, or exploitation.
Sponsorship helps keep the shelter running and funds essentials like caseworkers, meals, transport, counseling, and gender-affirming care. It provides not just support, but real safety, stability, and hope for a better future.
